Jerky tasting at home: find your favourite flavour

Author:

A jerky tasting at home is a simple way to find your favourite flavour. Pick a few bags of BERSERKR, compare different recipes and taste them in small bites. This is a proper meaty adventure, not a competition to see who can handle the most chilli.

The essentials
  • Choose three or four contrasting flavours for your first tasting.
  • Start with a meaty classic and leave bold chilli flavours until last.
  • Focus on flavour, seasoning and your own impression. There is no universal winner.

1. Choose contrasts, not just similar bags

Comparing several distinct recipes makes it easier to discover what you really enjoy about jerky. Is it the flavour of beef itself? Or are you after smoky notes, bright seasoning or a sweet and spicy combination? BERSERKR gives you plenty to explore: meat is the foundation, and each recipe brings its own character.

Our suggested starting line-up is FENRIR with pure beef, VALHALLA with barbecue, MJÖLNIR with lemon pepper and VALKYRJA with mango and chilli. This is a tasting suggestion, not the name of a ready-made bundle. If ramen or teriyaki with peanuts sounds more tempting, include DRAUGR or BUSHIDO instead.

2. Keep the preparation simple

All you need is a few clean bowls or plates, a glass of water and some paper for notes. Keep each bag beside its flavour so you can check the name and ingredients. If you are tasting with others, check the allergens on every bag beforehand. Recipes differ; a flavour name is no substitute for the label.

Serve small amounts to begin with. You do not need to open all nine flavours at once to enjoy the experience. Store the remaining meat according to the instructions on each pack, including the advice for opened bags. A tasting should be relaxed and enjoyable, not a reason to leave opened bags unattended all evening.

3. Give each recipe its own moment

A simple order is to begin with FENRIR, follow with MJÖLNIR and VALHALLA, and leave chilli until the end. This is not a professional test or a definitive ranking of intensity. It is just a practical way to avoid starting with whichever flavour feels strongest to you.

Notice three things in each bite: what you taste first, how the seasoning works with the meat, and which flavour you want to return to. Pause between samples and have some water. You do not need elaborate tasting vocabulary. Notes such as “properly meaty”, “love the smoke” or “too much chilli for me” are perfectly useful.

4. Find your favourite, not a winner for everyone

Give each flavour your own score from one to five and note when you would enjoy it again. One might win for a film night, another for a break on a hike. When tasting with friends, write down your impressions separately before comparing them. Different answers are part of the fun.

Want to turn it into a game? Number the bowls and reveal the names after the first round. Keep the ingredient labels available and deal with allergens beforehand. The aim is not to catch anyone out, but to discover which of our meaty recipes wins you over without a clue from the bag.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to taste all nine flavours at once?

No. Three or four samples are plenty for your first comparison. Save the others for another time and gradually build your own favourite line-up.

What if I do not like spicy food?

You can leave chilli out altogether. Start with flavours that appeal to you and read their descriptions and ingredients before choosing. Your taste matters more than any challenge.
